The third installment in this excellent video modeling series explores social challenges and the skills needed to stay in control and gain confidence. At times, children can become overwhelmed because they don't know what they can do differently to improve their situations. Helping kids identify and work on the skills needed to build and develop friendships leads to increased confidence. An important component of making and maintaining friendships is the ability to control strong emotions and impulses. By showing children what they can do differently in emotionally charged situations, they become empowered and confident as they stay calm during disagreements and learn to compromise. The DVD follows Jake through his school day and highlights what he can do to improve social exchanges. The situations covered are Accidents, Being Flexible, Waiting, Mixed Messages, Resolving Disagreements, Asking for Help, Joining the Group, Controlling Excitement, Filtering Comments, Common Courtesy, and Taking Responsibility. This volume is geared towards mainstreamed elementary school-aged children. It includes 5 classroom lessons to reinforce the skills learned from the DVD. Approximate running time: 30 minutes
